My sister taught me that opinions about myself and my actions comes from outside.
My brother taught me to be a voice for others, and in that, to accept and make excuses for harmful or difficult behaviors.
My dad taught me that emotions are a waste of time, and women’s experiences should be explained to them.
My mother taught me that authority is always right, and powerlessness is inevitable.
I taught myself that all of these views are wrong. And I’ve unlearned each and every one of them.
If I can do it, so can you. Just cuz they’re family and you love them, doesn’t mean they (and their lessons) stent toxic.
